Last night I had the divine pleasure of attending @theBookUP in Greensboro, upstairs at @Bin_33 hosted by local author @jomaeder.
Jo Maeder, author of When I Married My Mother and famed “NYC Rock and Roll Madame”, was inspired by The Reading Party in the Sorrento Hotel.
Admittedly it was an ambitious task to gather the litterati of the triad and ask them *not to make small talk.
Attendees included Stewart Pittman, author of Viewfinder BLUES, Parke Puterbaugh, author of Phish: The Biography, Brian Clarey, author of The Anxious Hipster and Other Barflies I’ve Known as well as Bill Moore , co-author of Ampeg: The Story Behind the Sound.
Small talk was made none the less – and Jo was ready with a generous supply of ear plugs for anyone who asked.
The youngest reader of the group? Well it was @minipoe – his parents @phineaspoe and @dizzibloom are proud to pass on their love of reading! http://ow.ly/i/akF8
It’s no surprise that so many showed with books in hand – there was a lot of local excitement over this seemingly strange but sexy concept and The BookUP was the media darling of the Triad for weeks leading up to the event.
Here is a picture of @JoMaeder and @fox8cindyfarmer of @MyFox8 chatting about @TheBookup at @Bin_33 – http://ow.ly/i/aess

Jo was especially honored to read words of encouragement for the Book UP from @DrMayaAngelou -
“It is easier for me to trust people who read than those who talk, and even those who talk about reading. Writers need readers desperately and whether they know it or not, readers need writers desperately.
One hand washes the other. The aspect of one hand trying to wash itself is pitiful. But, when the two get together, Ah! There’s a possibility of success.
I support The BOOKUP and let us all say, “Here’s to BOOKUP”!
